What is a Musical Workshop?

Our Musical Workshops at Luxicals are immersive experiences where participants develop their skills in singing, acting and stage performance. Each workshop is built around a single theme or storyline, and brings hands-on training together with guidance from experienced professionals. Participants work closely with our dedicated coaches and rehearse to live piano played by Philipp Polzin, shaping each piece until it feels truly their own. From time to time we are also joined by special guests — among them Sabine Meyer and Mathias Edenborn — who share their craft and inspire new ideas.

Every workshop builds towards a live performance, where participants present what they have created on a real stage in front of an audience. That final concert turns weeks of rehearsal into a shared moment, and it is just as memorable for the people watching as for those performing.

More than a singing lesson

A musical workshop is not a series of isolated exercises. Over several sessions, a group moves from the first read-through of a theme to a fully staged piece. Voices are warmed up, characters take shape, and everyone learns to find their place on stage and to listen to one another as an ensemble. Our vocal coaches give individual feedback along the way, while the group slowly builds something larger than any single voice.

Music theatre asks a lot of a performer: you sing, you act, and you move, often all at once. That is exactly why a workshop format works so well. Instead of treating singing, acting and movement as separate subjects, we weave them together around one story, so that every skill supports the others. A song becomes easier to sing once you understand the character singing it.

What you will learn

Whether you arrive as a complete beginner or as an experienced singer, a workshop gives you concrete tools to take away. Typical areas we work on include:

Because every group is different, no two workshops are exactly alike. The theme, the songs and the people in the room all shape the final result, which is part of what makes each edition feel fresh.

From the first session to the stage

The journey usually begins with introductions and a relaxed warm-up, so that everyone feels comfortable before any real singing starts. From there, the group explores the chosen theme, learns the music, and gradually stages each number. Live piano accompaniment ties the rehearsals together and gives every scene its own colour and momentum.

As the final concert approaches, the energy in the room changes. Rehearsals become run-throughs, costumes and staging fall into place, and a collection of individual efforts turns into one shared show. Standing on stage together at the end is a genuinely emotional moment for everyone involved.

Who can take part

You do not need to be a trained singer to join us. Our workshops welcome curious beginners alongside experienced performers; what matters is the willingness to try, to listen and to grow. Many participants tell us that the music is only half of the experience — the lasting reward is the community, the friendships and the creative connections that form when a group prepares for a concert together.

If this sounds like something for you — whether on stage, in songwriting, or behind the scenes — we would love to welcome you to the next workshop. This is the first of a series of behind-the-scenes posts; if the format resonates, more will follow.
